Felting is a traditional skill that has been practiced for thousands of years. We still practice it here in GalGael and are happy to teach you how to do it!

The aim of this workshop is to learn the basic skills of traditional wet felting, using natural and colourful sheep’s wool fibers, warm water, soap and friction.

You will:
● learn to felt a flat piece e.g. a little picture,
a felted piece for a brooch or a felted flower
● experiment with colours and design
● take home a unique piece of hand made felt.

At the end of the workshop you will have your own felted items and have learned a new and traditional skill.
Please bring 1 towel and a plastic bag for your finished work.

Cost: £5 including material

Two all-day wool craft workshops: A "Spinning / Natural Dyeing Workshop" and a "Felt Workshop", Saturday 20th April 2013, 10am-4pm

All Day Spinning and Natural Dyeing Workshop

 
Spinning and natural dyeing of sheep’s wool are skills that have been practiced for thousands of years. We still practice them here in GalGael and are happy to teach you how to do them! The kind of plants we will use, were already used in ancient times to colour cloth. 

The aim of this workshop is to teach the basic skills from raw sheep’s wool to a hand spun & natural dyed yarn. 

Some of the things you will learn about are:
• carding the wool with hand carders & drum carder;
• spinning with drop spindle and spinning wheel;
• natural dyeing with plants;

Natural dyeing in process

At the end of the workshop you will have your own hank or ball of hand spun undyed wool and one of natural dyed
wool and have learned traditional wool processing skills.
Feel free to bring your own drop spindle, spinning wheel or other equipment along with you. 

Please bring a packed lunch.

Felt making is a skill that has been practiced for thousands of years. We still practice it here in GalGael and are happy
to teach you how to do it!

The aim of this workshop is to teach the basic skills of traditional wet felting, using natural and colourful sheep’s wool fibres.
 You will:
• learn to felt cords and a ball/bead
• learn to felt a flat piece
• experiment with colours and design
• use a template to felt a seamless hollow vessel,
  e.g. a pouch or a case or a pair of wrist cuffs.
• learn different ways of finishing off the felted items. 

At the end of the workshop you will have your own felted items and have learned a new and traditional skill.

Please bring 2 towels, a bar of glycerine soap (e.g.Pears) and a plastic bag for your finished work and a packed lunch. Tea and coffee provided.

Come along to a felt workshop for some creativity with fluffy natural and coulourful sheep's wool and make something beautiful! Beginners and advanced felters are welcome. The felt workshops are suitable for all age groups from 5 years onwards.

The felt workshops are run by Laryna Wuppermann, fibercraft artist with 28 years of experience in teaching fibercraft. 

Workshops in Glasgow's South: in GalGael /Ibrox, 15 Fairley Street,
on Thursday, 02/02 and 16/02 and 01/03; 15/03 and 29/03/2012 at 3.30-5pm.
Suggested donation: £5/£3

Felt workshops in Galgael in October and November 2011

Fancy to learn about felt making? Come along to Galgael on Thursday, 6th of October, 3.15 - 4.45pm. You can make a flat felt, or something else, using colourful sheeps wool. It's fun and easy to learn! Suggested donation: £4/ £3.There will be 3 more felt sessions, every fourtnight (20./10. and 3.+17./11.)  Please send me an email if you were up for it. (laryna108@gmail.com ) The woolcraft group in Galgael is a group of volounteers, doing spinning, weaving, plant dyeing, knitting, crocheting and felting. We are happy to share our skills. If you like you can stay for longer. Thursday nights in Galgael are a great opportunity to get to know the place the guys and share food, poetry, songs, music and laughter ;-)
